Chemin de Fer Basics – Part 1

The general premise of the card game is to be dealt cards totaling up to 21. Each gambler is dealt 2 cards. When a black jack player is given a nine or less and an Ace they’ve been handed a soft hand. When the player receives no Ace it is known as a hard hand. As soon as the cards have been handed to all players at the blackjack table, including the dealer, every blackjack player is given the chance to make 1 of six choices:

Requesting another card (Hit): When a blackjack player announces "hit" the dealer will deal them another card, if the addition of that card makes the total greater than twenty-one the black jack player will have lost and be excluded from the game, if the card pushes the value of the hand to twenty one the player is the winner and if the total hasn’t yet reached 21 they’re still in the game.

Keeping the hand you’ve been given: If a player is satisfied with the cards they will stand. Once this has happened the croupier will display their hand and the black jack player who has accumulated twenty one or the closet to twenty-one will win.

Doubling Down: A gambler may request to double down which increases the bet by 100% they have laid. As soon as you’ve taken this procedure you can only receive one additional card. The details of doubling down are normally specified by the table or casino game rules so before competing be sure you are comfortable with the house rules. If you’re playing at a web-based betting house this is normally very easy.
